Choosing A Niche Market For Affiliate Advertising

July 27th, 2010 No comments

Affiliate marketing is the recommended starting point for new Internet marketers. Why is that? Marketing is a good place to start an Internet marketing career because the new marketer can get a faster start without having to know how to build a website, buy a domain name, or create a sales letter.

Marketing requires knowing how to get visitors to the product website you’re promoting to make money online. You get to concentrate on getting traffic to the product site which is a very important part of Internet marketing that will serve you well throughout your career. Without traffic there can be no sales.

The important first step is to choose a niche market. Many new marketers start with products for which they have a passion. That’s a novel idea as long as your passion isn’t the mating of hippos. You just won’t make any money because there isn’t much of an audience for that particular subject. You can always concentrate on your passion after you’ve reached a six-figure income.

The idea behind “do what you love and the money will follow” is great if what you love is in demand by others who can’t get enough products or information about your passion. But if your passion won’t make much money keep it as a hobby and decide to sell what people are looking for.

There are “evergreen” niches that are always in demand such as babies, marriage, divorce, and weight loss because there will always be an on-going interest in these niches. However, some of these niches are so saturated with competition that it would be difficult for a new marketer to compete.

Some of the best niches to target are health conditions that aren’t life threatening such as acne, bad breath, toe fungus, or yellow teeth. These are conditions that are annoying and people are desperate to find a solution. They will pay money to try several products if necessary.

You may find ideas for niches by browsing magazines online or offline. If you can find a magazine dedicated to a certain niche you know there is a ready market of people who are spending money in that niche. Whether you are selling information or hard goods magazines are a good source of niche information.

Online auction sites are also a good source of information for niche research. Most auction sites report the top searches made on a daily basis.

It’s still a good idea to choose a niche you enjoy. You will stay motivated longer when you have some interest in your product. Just make sure it has an audience large enough to make your marketing efforts profitable.
